Kohima: Nagaland student groups are demanding immediate action after a minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted. The crime occurred on July 7 in Medziphema Town. Accused Pauminlun Gante now faces public outcry. Four major student unions issued a joint condemnation of the incident.
The All Nagaland Gorkha Students Union (ANGSU) called the situation deeply disturbing. They urged local authorities to perform a prompt, impartial investigation. If the allegations hold, the union wants the suspect prosecuted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012. The group expressed "profound concern" regarding the safety of the victim.
Support is pouring in for the survivor. Abou u Kuotsu, the Gaon Bura of Ward 9, played a key role. He helped file the First Information Report. He also expelled the suspect from the ward. The union thanked him for acting as a beacon of hope for justice.
Additional groups joined the fight. The Gorkha Students Union of Chumoukedima District, the Gorkha Students Union Kohima, and the Gorkha Students Union Mokokchung are all demanding accountability. They labeled the act a gross violation of human rights. These organizations are calling for the victim to receive full medical, psychological, and legal assistance. They want the law to work fast.
