NSCN Official Retracts False Claims Against Kohima Village

Kohima: Rev. A. Puni Mao, a senior NSCN (I-M) official, walked back claims that Kohima Village funneled weapons to Kuki militants. He admitted the accusations lacked proof. The controversy ignited during a June 25 meeting at Hotel Bliss in Chümoukedima.

Puni alleged that Kohima Village handed over 30 AK-47 rifles to militants fighting in Manipur. The Kohima Village Council (KVC) hit back hard. They labeled the statements as false and baseless. The council claimed the remarks were, "conceived with malicious intent," designed to smear the village and build the official's personal status.

The village council demanded answers. They summoned Puni to the KVC Hall on July 7 to prove his story. He appeared on July 9. Puni admitted his mistake in front of council members, village elders, and frontal organizations. He offered a public apology for the unfounded accusations. The village council accepted the apology and considers the matter settled for now.
