Postal Department Recruits Government Staff to Boost Insurance Sales

Kohima: The Department of Posts launched a new sales category named Other Departmental Employee to expand Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance coverage. Central and State government workers up to Level-8 of the Pay Matrix can sign up as agents. Postal staff remain excluded from this specific initiative.

This effort aims to push the Centre's Viksit Bharat vision. It reaches deep into rural areas. Officials confirmed the role is purely voluntary and creates no employer-employee ties with the Department of Posts. Agents must source all business during their off-duty hours. They must also follow guidelines from the PLI Directorate.

In Nagaland, the program opens a door for specific staff members. One person from each department or office at the block level can sign up. "The engagement is entirely voluntary," according to official guidelines regarding the new sales force structure. Recruits earn the same procurement and renewal incentives as current departmental employees, though these rates may change over time.
