Kohima: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio gathered the Nagaland ruling alliance at Niathu Resort this Thursday to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday. The event brought together members of the NPF, BJP, NPP, JD(U), RPI(A), and LJP (Ram Vilas) to pledge their support for the national Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative.
Rio praised Modi for shifting the Northeast from the geographical periphery to the center of national strategy. He noted that the Prime Minister’s focus on the region has brought more Union ministers and development projects to Nagaland. The Chief Minister emphasized that success requires Sabka Prayas, or a collective effort from every state and citizen.
The Chief Minister highlighted his long history with Modi, dating back to their shared time as state leaders. He recalled traveling to Israel with Modi and then-Union minister Sharad Pawar to study agricultural technology. Rio also pointed to the 2015 Framework Agreement and the 2023 swearing-in ceremony as key moments in their relationship.
Rio defined their partnership through a shared focus on public service. He stated, "Our greatest strength is our people, their talent, creativity, energy and aspirations."
The Nagaland leader identified four pillars for progress: youth, women, farmers, and economically weaker sections. He urged the state to move beyond being a spectator in India’s growth. Rio argued that Nagaland must prioritize better connectivity, modern agriculture, and healthcare to compete nationally. He also reiterated the need for an inclusive and lasting resolution to the ongoing Naga political issue.
Legislators from coalition partners, including Tovihoto Ayemi of the BJP and Jwenga Seb of the JD(U), also addressed the attendees. Achumbemo Kikon, the NPF secretary general, concluded the meeting by calling on the central government to protect the nation's commitment to secularism and diversity.
