Kohima: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Nagaland marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday with service drives across 14 districts and 60 Mandals. State president Benjamin Yepthomi joined former ministers in Dimapur, while deputy chief minister Y Patton led events in Wokha. Ministers Temjen Imna Along and Bashangmongba Chang headed celebrations in Kohima and Tuensang, with advisor Kropol Vitsu also appearing in Kohima.
Blood donation camps anchored the festivities in Dimapur, Kohima, and Mokokchung. The party pinned these efforts to their Seva Hi Sangathan initiative. They want to strengthen grassroots ties across the state.
Speaking at Tongti village, Y Patton praised the Modi administration for pushing digital services and infrastructure. Patton traced the Prime Minister's career from his start as Gujarat chief minister in 2001 to his current federal role. On June 10, 2026, Modi reached 4,399 days in office, breaking Jawaharlal Nehru’s record for continuous service. Patton noted that Modi will hit 25 years as a government head on October 7, 2026. He stated, "Modi would complete 25 continuous years as head of government on October 7, 2026."
Patton pointed to International Monetary Fund data from July 2026, which forecast India's growth at 6.4 percent. He linked this to projects like the PM Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, and Swachh Bharat. According to figures from New India Samachar, the Prime Minister visited the Northeast 83 times between January 2015 and December 2025. Union ministers made 880 trips in that span. In March 2024, the government committed over Rs 1,700 crore to Nagaland projects, including the Unity Mall in Chümoukedima and various road networks.
The Tongti village event included a welcome from chairman Yipomo Patton and a prayer by pastor Nchumbemo Kikon. The day ended with a community feast.
