Gauhati High Court Probes Nagaland Road Contract Fraud Claims

Kohima: The Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench issued a notice to the federal government, the Nagaland state administration, and private contractors on November 5. Justices Budi Habung and Helen Daungliani ordered all parties to file responses within five weeks following a Public Interest Litigation filed against a state road project. The court mandate arrived on November 4.

The legal action centers on a contract for the Kijumetouma to Kughu River road, which passes through Iphonu, Ghathasi, Mukali, Shesulimi, and Kichilimi. This specific case targets Phase II of the project, spanning from Ghathasi to the Tsui River. The petitioner claims Swarn Jayanti Construction Pvt. Ltd. of New Delhi and Jordan Construction of Dimapur formed a joint venture to win the bid using fake financial records.

The petition identifies major gaps between the joint venture’s internal filings, records from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and PWD payment documents. Investigators face claims that the companies failed to remit Rs 1,28,38,335 in GST to state and federal authorities. The court has yet to examine the merits of the case. Officials noted, "However, the allegations are yet to be examined on merits."
