Kohima: Nagaland students crushed the 2026 National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, hitting a record 59.2% qualification rate. This surge reverses last year’s disappointing slump. It beats the previous high set in 2023.
The National Testing Agency released the numbers on July 17. A total of 3,866 candidates registered in the state, up from 3,757 in 2025. Fewer people actually sat for the exam. Attendance dropped from 3,532 to 3,289. Even with lower turnout, 1,946 students qualified, an increase of 133 over last year’s 1,813 total.
Subhasmita Nayak is the state topper. She earned a 97.86464 percentile and an All India Rank of 42,124. Nationally, 11,21,185 candidates qualified out of nearly 20 lakh who appeared. Assam led the North-East with 18,435 qualifiers, followed by Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Sikkim.
Top honors went to Punjab's Aryan Gupta, who secured AIR 1 with a 99.9999 percentile. Competition remains fierce. Across India, 138 candidates scored above 670 marks. Official cut-offs climbed significantly this year across all categories.
The NTA warned students to avoid scams. They issued a stern advisory regarding fake admission offers. The agency stated, "NTA does not contact candidates seeking money or credentials." Candidates should only use official portals like neet.nta.nic.in or mcc.nic.in for guidance. Any suspicious activity should be reported to neetug2026@nta.ac.in or the helpline at 011-40759000.
