Kohima: Peren Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru urged students to move beyond textbooks and use science to solve local issues. The Zeme Baptist Church Council, in partnership with Kendeu Coaching Centre, hosted the Science Exhibition 2026 at Baptist High School in Jalukie this past Friday. The event focused on the theme Harnessing Science for a Sustainable Future.
Peidoding, headmaster at Christian School, chaired the kickoff. Attendees heard an invocation from Administrator Iteibeule, a welcome from ZBCC Executive Secretary Dr. Rampaukopoing Michui, and introductory notes from Kendeu Coaching Centre CFO Igumsing Hingleu. Students from Baptist High School delivered a special presentation before the contests began.
Meru pushed students to look past government jobs. He identified healthcare, education, and the economy as critical fields for development. The DC warned that urban growth and logging threaten the status of the region as the Green District of Nagaland and the Rice Bowl of Nagaland. He told the crowd, "experimentation, refinement and perseverance helped develop intellectual ability."
Competitions filled the remainder of the day. In the science exhibition, Air to Grow from BHSS Jalukie B took top honors. Water Cleaning Boat from BHS Jalukie placed second, while Wind 2 Life from BHSS Jalukie B finished third. Kilamle of BHS Jalukie won the elocution contest, and Samzai Newme of BHS Jalukie claimed victory in the extempore speech category.
Judges for the events included Er Irangtalang, Keyicetpeule, Kehelingle, Er Chudi, Hiazu Meru, and Peihauding. Sarah Kamlak Rangkau and Ariebe Hingleu provided prayers to open and close the day.
