Kohima: Nagaland officials kicked off a two-day training program in Kohima on September 15. Forty-eight teachers from 21 PM SHRI schools are attending the event at SIEMAT-SCERT. The program aims to fix persistent learning gaps in math and science that show up in national testing. Poor results stem from a specific issue. Dr. Kevizakie Rio, Joint Mission Director for Samagra Nagaland, addressed the crowd. He noted that students perceive these subjects as difficult, creating a "fear psychosis" that keeps them from engaging with the material.
The training targets teachers of classes IX and X. They will learn to identify gaps through academic assessments and previous board exam data. Sessions focus on strengthening core concepts and building remedial strategies. Trainers want to move away from lectures toward learner-centered, activity-based approaches. They will also teach methods to boost analytical and problem-solving skills for upcoming board exams.
ThinkTac representatives, including Co-Founder Dr. Prochete Mallik, are running the workshops. The curriculum covers 24 science topics and 10 math topics. Lessons involve hands-on activities, formal sessions, and teacher-led presentations to ensure staff can teach these subjects better. ThinkTac works across the Northeast and North Bengal to improve classroom output. Dr. Bijano Murry, the State Nodal Officer for PM SHRI Nagaland, chaired the opening session. Resource persons from ThinkTac include Gopinath, Kakoli, and Priyanshu.
