Sebi Pushes Digital Accessibility Deadline to January

Shillong: The Securities and Exchange Board of India granted regulated entities until January 31 to hit digital accessibility targets. Market participants asked for the delay. The regulator agreed to push back the initial timeline.

A circular released October 30 confirms the extension applies to three specific tasks. Firms must hire an auditor from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals. They must complete accessibility audits of digital platforms. Finally, they need to fix any problems found during those checks.

These rules fall under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016. Sebi issued the original mandate to protect investors and keep the market in check. "The direction was issued to protect investors’ interests, promote the development and regulate the securities market." All other existing rules stay in force. Entities must follow those without exception.
