Shillong: Political parties just filed their financial disclosures with the Election Commission of India. These documents track money coming in and out during the state Assembly elections held from March 15 to May 6. The BJP reported central headquarters net receipts of Rs 1,472.8 crore. That is a massive haul. By May 6, the party's central closing balance climbed to Rs 7,627.2 crore, up from the Rs 6,722.6 crore recorded on March 15.
BJP finances remain incomplete. Expenditure reports for the Kerala and West Bengal contests are still missing from the public record. Once the party files those final documents, the total figures will be known. The Election Commission requires these disclosures to maintain transparency. Officials stated the documents provide a "snapshot of the funds received and spent by the parties" during the election window.
The Congress took a different route. They submitted a consolidated report covering their central unit alongside state units in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry. The party brought in Rs 207.17 crore but spent Rs 248.55 crore during the same window. They started with Rs 169.06 crore, split between Rs 22.9 crore in cash and Rs 146.1 crore in bank accounts. By May 6, their combined balance dropped to approximately Rs 103.2 crore. More filings are expected soon.
