Nagaland Street Vendors Association Enforces Strict New Regulations

Kohima: The Street Vendors Association Nagaland has issued a formal directive to all local hawkers and vendors. Failure to comply will lead to disciplinary action. The order mandates strict adherence to municipal laws, legal requirements, and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India guidelines.

Vendors must keep footpaths clear at all times. This follows a Supreme Court order protecting the public right to walk on demarcated paths. The association also demands that street food sellers stop using inked or printed paper for food packaging. This move aims to prevent chemical hazards. Food handlers must now wear hairnets, gloves, and aprons to ensure service hygiene.

Sunday operations face specific restrictions. SVAN stated that "the Sunday closure would remain strictly in force for Street Vendors until 12:00 Noon" to keep the peace during morning church services. The association expects full cooperation from its members to maintain these standards.
