Dimapur street vendors warned over Sunday trading

Kohima: Street Vendors Association Nagaland issued a stern warning to hawkers and traders in Dimapur. The group says vendors must respect Sunday morning worship hours. The association acted after an internal survey spotted hawkers starting business as early as 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Reports of trading hit several key areas. These include Durga Mandir, Netaji Colony, Marwaripati, New Market, Supermarket, Railway Bazaar, Hazipark, and the Blue Hill Station area. Many violators are traveling from Assam to sell their goods. The group stated, "people respect all faiths in Nagaland," and noted the state is predominantly Christian.

Vendors who ignore these rules face fines and local enforcement action. Authorities may even confiscate goods. The association clarified that limited exemptions exist for essential services and perishable food vendors, but these businesses must stay closed until after noon. All other roadside stalls and general vendors must keep their doors shut until worship services conclude.

SVAN expects cooperation from colony councils and local organizations to keep order. They want to preserve the socio-religious decorum of the community. Traders should take note to avoid financial penalties or losing their inventory to authorities.
