Shillong: Osmand EJ Nongbri is heading to the national stage. The Managing Director of Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank Limited just secured a seat on the board of Sahakar Sarathi Private Limited. This entity acts as a national shared service hub for rural co-operative banks across India.
Sahakar Sarathi launched in July 2025 with an authorised share capital of Rs 1,000 crore. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the National Co-operative Development Corporation back the project. Several participating co-operative banks also provide support. The setup aims to boost operational efficiency by offering digital infrastructure and back-office services to rural branches.
Nongbri now holds a direct role in shaping the national technology roadmap for the sector. He plans to advocate for the specific needs of banks in the Northeast region. "This is a significant opportunity for Meghalaya’s co-operative banking sector to contribute to and benefit from the national push towards shared, standardised technology infrastructure for Rural Co-operative Banks," Nongbri said.
The organization focuses on three main goals. It wants to drive process efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and push innovation. This shift marks a major change for regional banking operations.
