Decomposed Body Found in Southwest Khasi Hills River

Shillong: Locals found a man dead in the Photpyntoh River on Saturday evening. The discovery happened at Mawranglang Lai Kyntoit village, five kilometres from Mawkyrwat. Residents spotted the remains around 6:10 pm.

The body was in bad shape. Advanced decomposition and maggots made the cause of death unclear. The man lay curled, wedged firmly between rocks. He wore only black shorts, leaving his upper body exposed to the elements. A taweez remained tied to his upper right arm with a thread.

Police have moved the body to the Shillong Civil Hospital. Medical staff there will conduct a post-mortem examination. Detectives are still working to identify the victim, though official statements say, "the cause of death could not be immediately determined."
