Shillong: Villagers in Rohbah captured Bailing Wahlang early Wednesday morning. The 62-year-old man had been on the run since Tuesday. He stands accused of killing his 56-year-old sister, Snity Wahlang, following a dispute over property. They caught him, held him at the local Dorbar Hall, and called the law.
The Myntri of Pyndenumsaw village tipped off the Mawkyrwat Women Police Station at 7:30 am. Officers rushed to the scene and took the suspect into custody. Police hauled him to Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital for a medical check. He spoke up. He reportedly admitted to the crime before the medical officer.
Investigators seized his blood-stained clothes as evidence. During follow-up questioning, Wahlang owned up to the killing again. He told police he would show them where he ditched the weapon. A Chief Judicial Magistrate granted one day of police custody to finish the investigation. Police intend to recreate the scene and nail down the exact motive behind the violence. As the authorities noted, the suspect expressed "willingness to lead police to the weapon used in the crime."
