Kohima Police Seize 20,000 Yaba Tablets in Anti-Drug Sweep

Kohima: Kohima Police pulled 20,000 Yaba tablets off the streets during October anti-drug operations. Security forces also cleared 302 grams of heroin and 6 kg of opium in separate busts. These totals surfaced during the October 22 Kohima District Narcotics Coordination meeting at the Deputy Commissioner office.

Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem chaired the session to review enforcement and inter-departmental cooperation. Drug addiction now hits everyone. It reaches across gazetted officers, uniformed personnel, and daily wage earners alike. Abou Mere, director of the Kripa Foundation, pointed to deep-seated issues like low self-esteem and depression. He blamed the desire for instant gratification and what he called "King Baby Syndrome" for driving addiction.

SSP Krodi Rhetso noted that police identified major drug routes, yet smugglers constantly find new ways to move contraband. The Home Department is now working with the Kripa Foundation to rehabilitate law enforcement personnel caught in substance abuse. Rhetso also linked the rise in local theft to youth addiction. He expects monthly narcotics meetings as mandated by the Ministry of Home Affairs to keep the Narcotics Control Bureau updated.

Authorities are tightening the net. The Drug Inspector reported on new inspections targeting local pharmacies. Officials plan to run sensitisation programs to stop the misuse of prescription drugs. The district continues to push ahead with activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to clear the drug trade.
