Kohima: The Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce and Industries officially pushed back against a 30-day ultimatum from the NSCN/FRGN. This order demands all non-local businesses in Nagaland shut their doors. ZCCI president Kikheto Muru and vice president Lhokiye Yepthomi issued a statement on October 31 demanding the state government stop these threats.
Business owners face real fear. The group wants the government to issue a formal directive banning forced closures. They are asking for legal and administrative action against any group using intimidation. They also want a working system where store owners can report threats and get help immediately.
The ZCCI stands with the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries. They argue that this order kills the economy and destroys business confidence. While they respect indigenous rights, they demand that changes happen through legal, constitutional channels. The ZCCI noted, "No individual or organization should be permitted to take the law into their own hands, or impose arbitrary restrictions on legitimate commercial activities through intimidation, threat, or unilateral ultimatums."
These ultimatums violate the basic right to work. They also hurt the state's push for ease of doing business. The Chamber now waits for the government to step up and ensure the safety of all employees, customers, and properties.
