Rajasthan government sidelines IPS officer Mathur in property probe

Shillong: The Rajasthan government placed IPS officer Prashakha Mathur on Awaiting Posting Orders status on Saturday. This decision followed the state's move to strip her husband, senior IAS officer Shikhar Agarwal, of his positions on October 29. The Department of Personnel issued the orders after the Anti-Corruption Bureau launched a preliminary inquiry into Agarwal. The probe focuses on claims of misuse of power and the granting of illicit perks to a private firm.

Investigators are looking at the purchase of 40 villas from Goyal Fashions Private Limited. Records show the couple and their relatives bought these units at rates well below market value. Agarwal and Mathur each bought 10 villas at Bujhda Resort in Udaipur for 15 lakh rupees apiece. At Ananta Resort in Alwar, eight units were bought in their names for 16.5 lakh rupees each. Their sons and in-laws also received villas. Officials stated, "The bureau may question her as part of its investigation into alleged conflicts of interest, misuse of official position and property transactions."

Mathur, a 1995-batch officer from Ajmer, had only taken her role as Additional Director General of Planning, Modernisation and Welfare on October 24, 2025. While she disclosed some properties, investigators found the Alwar villa missing from her official returns. On March 27, the Finance Department handed a special concessional economic package to the private company. That same day, Agarwal completed the registration of 20 villas. The ACB is now vetting financial records to determine if the couple holds assets far beyond their known income.
