Kohima: The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry moved to consolidate regional trade on September 11. An 11-member team led by president Tsukti Longkumer visited Changtongya and Tuli to meet with the Business Union Changtongya Town and the Business Association Tuli. The chamber aims to represent the entire district, including Mangkolemba, to build a stronger commercial hub for Eastern Nagaland.
Unity is the goal. Executive member Tsukjemwati Kichu identified untapped potential in Tuli and the Tzürangkong area. He questioned if Changtongya could dominate markets in Longleng and Tamlu. Longkumer argued that local shops struggle because outside vendors bypass GST and registration rules. This puts local money at risk. He envisions the district as a vital trade partner, describing it as “a shoulder to lean on” for surrounding areas.
Local unions backed the plan for unified guidelines. They previously thought the MCCI only spoke for Mokokchung town. The MCCI is currently building a facility in Mokokchung meant for all affiliated bodies. While the Mangkolemba business group has discussed joining, they have yet to finalize any deal. The MCCI team plans to visit Mangkolemba soon.
The group also provided immediate aid to victims of recent flooding. They handed Rs. 1 lakh to Additional Deputy Commissioner Imsenperong Wati to assist Tuli residents. The mission remains focused on growth without regard for race, creed, or religion.
