Kohima: Mokokchung now has its first live fish mart. Osail Mart opened for business on September 16 in Chuchuyimpang Village. Located near Police Baptist Church, the site was officially launched by Tsukti Lkr, president of the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Rev S Toshi of the Mongya Prayer Garden dedicated the shop.
The business offers doorstep delivery of live fish across Mokokchung Town. Proprietor Opangrenba says customers can pick their fish through the mart's social media account and get it dropped off by his courier team. He started the business after spotting a clear demand for fresh options. He noted his motivation as a local entrepreneur and said, "Serving the community through essential services was a calling." He built the shop to provide "quality food and quality life" for the area.
Tsukti Lkr praised the new venture during the launch event. He pointed to a 2020 crisis when authorities found formalin in fish, sparking a four-month total ban on imports. He believes this mart will provide a steady supply of safe, quality protein. The shop could help the town avoid future supply shocks.
Mokokchung is becoming a major commercial hub for the surrounding districts of Tuensang, Longleng, Noklak, Shamator, and parts of Zunheboto and Wokha. Lkr noted that while the town's supply chain is growing, the local market is nearing saturation. He urged the people of Chuchuyimpang to support local businesses to keep the town growing.
