Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh saluted India's medalists at the Asian Games in Japan. He singled out the men's quadrant sepaktakraw team for securing a bronze. The squad included Manipur natives Malemnganba Singh Sorokhaibam, Akash Yumnam, and Lokhon Singh Elangbam. Singh credited the team's success to the raw commitment of the young athletes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the celebration. He noted this marks India's first medal in the men's quadrant event. Modi lauded their fighting spirit and stated, "The achievement would help promote Sepaktakraw across the country." He expects this win to drive future growth for the sport nationwide.
The state leader also toasted the Indian women's hockey team. They clinched gold after a gritty 1-0 victory against China. The win snapped a 44-year drought for the squad, which had not taken the title since 1982. Manipur's own Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam and Bichu Devi Kharibam played key roles in that championship run.
