Imphal: Manipur Police held a 10-km marathon today to mark National Sports Day. The event honored hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. Runners started at Mayang Imphal Police Station. They sprinted through Mayang Imphal Bazaar, Konchak Phaoba, and Uchiwa Leirak before finishing back at the station. Three hundred sixty-five people raced.
Zabed Hussain from Lilong grabbed first place in the men's race. Yumnam Pushiba of Wangoo took second, and Yumnam Berlin of Heirok Part-II finished third. Nishmilet Ayekpam from Mayang Imphal Maning Khunou won the women's category. SAI Chanu of Mayang Imphal Khunou placed second, while Usham Bebi Devi of Kanto Sabal came in third. Organizers gave cash prizes and certificates to the top three finishers. Every participant walked away with a T-shirt and a certificate.
Mayang Imphal Sub-Divisional Police Officer Taiyenjam Clitona explained the event pushed for better health and focus among the youth. He noted the local police are working with schools, colleges, and clubs to fight drug abuse. He told the crowd, "Imphal West District Police has been conducting drug-awareness programmes in collaboration with schools, colleges, clubs and civil society organisations, and called for collective efforts to promote a drug-free and peaceful society." The race ran under the banner of Fit Body, Strong Mind, United Spirit, Health Today, Stronger Tomorrow.
