Guwahati: IndiGo begins direct flights from Guwahati to Bangkok on October 27. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the new route on August 28. This move marks the latest international expansion for the city. Guwahati already hosts direct service to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Sarma touted the route as a major win for the region. He expects the connection to grow trade, tourism, and travel across Southeast Asia. The flight path turns Guwahati into a primary international hub for the Northeast. It simplifies travel for locals who previously relied on connecting services to reach Thailand. Visitors from Thailand can now reach Northeast destinations with ease.
Sarma took to social media to share the news with his followers. He praised the upcoming expansion as a sign of progress. "Guwahati is flying further! After Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Bangkok is next," Sarma said. The state government believes this gateway will provide a fresh boost to the local economy.
