Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma honored scholar Mahamahopadhyay Anundoram Borooah on Friday, August 28. The tribute coincided with Sanskrit Day. Sarma spotlighted the deep history of Sanskrit study in the Kamarupa region.
Ancient Kamarupa served as a hub for deep intellectual work. Its legacy lives on through various stone inscriptions and copper plates. Sarma noted that Borooah acted as a key figure in this tradition. He effectively bridged India’s old heritage with modern global academia. His primary works included a comprehensive Sanskrit-English dictionary and essential studies on Sanskrit grammar.
Sarma took to the platform X to praise the scholar. He shared several of Borooah's writings to mark the occasion. The Chief Minister said, "On Sanskrit Day, I am sharing some of his writings." He wants the next generation to look toward Borooah for motivation. He hopes students will emulate his discipline and passion for classical language studies.
