Itanagar: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan joined Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 7 to kick off 110 crore worth of infrastructure projects at Gauhati University. This marks the start of a broader 250 crore investment plan for the institution. Work is moving fast.
The expansion targets core academic and housing needs. Planned builds include a new Academic Building, a boys hostel, an international students hostel, and a modern mess. Construction crews will also renovate the K.K. Handique Library seminar hall and upgrade the Birinchi Kumar Barua Auditorium. New quarters for D-grade staff are also on the list.
Beyond construction, the Vice President released the fifth edition of the Chandrakanta Abhidhan dictionary. He also introduced a biography titled "Bhupen Hazarika - Hundred Years of a Wandering Song." These academic contributions were presented during a public meeting with students, faculty, and local leaders.
The event concluded the Vice President's two-day trip to the state. Sarma saw him off at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. The projects aim to stabilize and improve daily life for the university community.
