Guwahati: A Facebook user targeted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with a death threat during a live broadcast of his Independence Day address. The suspect, identified as Abdul Mutaleb, posted the remark while the program streamed online. It was a direct threat. Mutaleb allegedly wrote that he would kill the Chief Minister and went further by offering a monetary reward to anyone willing to execute the act.
The post also featured pro-Pakistan slogans and hostile remarks aimed at India. This has put security agencies on high alert. Agencies are now combing through the user's social media activity and related data to determine if the threat poses a real danger or is simply an attempt to provoke. Officials are working to confirm the identity of the account holder. As one report noted, authorities are examining the information to "assess whether the reported threat represents a genuine security risk or was intended to provoke or intimidate." The investigation remains ongoing as officials await further details.
