Eighteen Assam Security Personnel Honored for Independence Day Service

Guwahati: Eighteen members of the Assam state security forces earned high honors on August 14. The group includes personnel from the police, fire services, and home guards. They received the President's Medal for Distinguished Service and the Medal for Meritorious Service on the eve of Independence Day.

Inspector General Devjyoti Mukherjee secured the President's Medal for Distinguished Service. The Medal for Meritorious Service went to 15 police officers, two fire service members, and one civil defense official.

Police honorees include Inspector General V Siva Prasad Ganjala and Assistant Inspector General Sarmistha Barua. Commandant Santanu Kumar Dutta, Superintendents Amitav Basumatary, Subhashish Baruah, and Suman Chakraborty, Deputy Superintendent Aker Ali, and staffers Prabin Baro, Ripon Paul, Nanda Tripura, and Surajit Mozumder also made the list. Fire and Emergency Services personnel Lohit Saikia and Md Shah Alam Sikdar took home awards alongside Home Guard Platoon Commander Abiram Islary.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the group. He noted the medals recognize their hard work. Sarma said, "the honours were a recognition of their contribution to maintaining the safety and security of the people of Assam."
