Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a plan to install hanging gardens on flyovers across Guwahati. The project aims to add greenery to the city infrastructure and improve the aesthetic appeal of public spaces. Sarma shared the proposal during a Facebook Live session on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

The state remains largely spared from severe monsoon flooding this year. Only specific regions face rising water issues. Currently, parts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts are dealing with flood-related challenges. The administration continues to monitor the situation while managing ongoing development work. Government teams are active on the ground. They are providing relief and support to all residents impacted by the high water. "The government stands firmly with the affected people and is ensuring that all required assistance reaches them," Sarma said.
