Guwahati: Juria Police arrested Rashidul Haque in Kerala for allegedly hacking a social media account to issue a death threat against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The suspect, a resident of Dhing Chapori in Juria, demanded Rs 2 crore for the assassination. He targeted the account of Mobarak Ali, a resident of Gadaimari in Juria.
Haque confessed to the act during police questioning. He claimed the motive stemmed from a personal grudge against Ali. According to Haque, "Ali had allegedly lured his wife into a relationship and eloped with her, leaving behind Haque's differently-abled child." The suspect also claimed his wife took Rs 5 lakh when she fled.
The investigation continues. Authorities are scrutinizing the hacking method, the specific social media post, and the full circumstances surrounding the threat. Officers seek to verify the timeline of events.
