Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state police on October 15 for their persistent fight against illegal narcotics. The state’s aggressive campaign yielded 945 arrests across 547 registered cases. Officials seized contraband valued at more than Rs 182 crore. The crackdown is working.

Shah confirmed authorities identified and targeted 703 drug hotspots. The state is now busy attaching properties worth nearly Rs 31 crore linked to these operations. This move hits criminal bank accounts hard. Shah took to X to describe the state's performance as a "decisive blow to drug networks."

The effort aligns with the Nasha Mukt Bharat vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shah cited the Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026-29 as the roadmap for dismantling trade infrastructure. He promised the government will keep pressing the fight with unwavering resolve to protect the youth from addiction.
