Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir wants Air India Express flights back in the air. He sent a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu demanding immediate action. Travel has stalled. The Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Dimapur route stopped nearly a year ago.
Jamir claims this suspension causes "immense inconvenience" for people across Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur. The situation worsened on August 1, 2026. That day, the airline cut the Bengaluru, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Dimapur service. Regional connectivity is hurting.
Students, patients, business travelers, and government officials face a heavy burden. They rely on these flights to reach the rest of the country. Jamir urged the ministry to either restart these specific routes or bring in another airline to cover the sector connecting Bengaluru, Kolkata, Guwahati, Dimapur, and Imphal.
The MP made his appeal on humanitarian grounds. He asked the government to treat the request with "top priority" to restore service for the public interest. Restoring these flights would mend a critical gap in transport for the Northeast.
