Veteran Peace Activist Niketu Iralu Dies at 89

Shillong: Niketu Iralu died Tuesday evening at a New Delhi hospital. The 89-year-old veteran peace activist suffered a cardiac arrest. He spent six decades pushing for reconciliation and dialogue across the Northeast.

The United Christian Forum of North East India mourns his passing. Spokesperson Allen Brooks remembered him as a pillar of moral leadership. "Fondly known across generations as Uncle Niketu, he dedicated more than six decades of his life to the quiet yet transformative work of trust-building, dialogue and moral leadership," Brooks said.

Iralu belonged to the Initiatives of Change movement. He focused on personal honesty and forgiveness. His work helped mend community wounds across Nagaland and the broader Northeast. He often hosted private conversations at the House of Listening with his wife, Christine.

He served as a major figure in the Forum for Naga Reconciliation. The Christian Forum thanked God for his commitment to peace. They offered condolences to his wife and family. Church leaders hope his legacy continues to shape the region.
