MP Jamir Presses for Doordarshan Staff Regularization in Nagaland

Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir wants the central government to stop sidelining contractual staff at Doordarshan. He sent a letter to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw on August 11, demanding an immediate overhaul of employment terms for these workers.

These employees keep the state broadcasts running. They handle technical maintenance, studio operations, transmission, and program execution. Many have served for years without job security, defined pay scales, or basic benefits like medical coverage and leave. Jamir emphasized that these workers earned their spots through public ads and formal interviews, yet they lack the protections granted to regular staff.

The MP submitted a four-point charter to force change. He wants a policy for staff absorption based on service length, a structured pay scale matching equal work standards, and full service benefits including EPF. He also requested a special recruitment drive to fix the chronic manpower shortage in the Engineering and Programme Sections. Jamir wrote, "Urging the Union Minister to address the issue on humanitarian grounds," the MP expects prompt action to protect the welfare of these workers.
