Bhandari Officials Push for Medical Staff and Power Upgrades

Kohima: The Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board in Bhandari met on August 12 at the Summer House-Cum-Guest House. They decided to press the state for a new Senior Medical Officer at the local Community Health Centre. The facility has been without a chief since the last one moved. No replacement arrived.

Medical Officer Dr. Lydia told the board the clinic faces a staff crunch. She noted, "the centre is operating without a Chief Medical Officer following the transfer of the previous officer, as no replacement has been posted." Women in the region also lack access to a gynaecologist. On the bright side, a recent sensitisation drive under the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme confirmed zero active cases of vector-borne illnesses in the area.

Power instability also took center stage. N Thungdemo Tungoe, president of the Yanmhon Area Public Organisation, demanded an upgrade from 11KV to 33KV lines. The current system fails 20 villages, hurting schools, farms, and local shops with constant blackouts. Longasen Lotha, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, ordered a feasibility report for the next meeting. Lotha also thanked census workers and local groups for wrapping up the recent headcount and rallied the board to prepare for upcoming Independence Day events.
