Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority clarified Tuesday that recent flood work in Chümoukedima was never meant for river erosion control. Officials dismissed reports claiming otherwise as inaccurate. The agency insists all projects under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme met their specific scope.
Confusion remains high in Diphupar A and Seithekhiema. The Authority finished restoration at K Khel, spanning from the Diphupar A Gate to K Khel. Crews completed flash flood mitigation along the Airport Road connection and from Naga United Village, Ruve Khel to Seithekhiema Basa. These jobs prioritize road infrastructure protection.
The NSDMA stated: "These works were executed in accordance with the approved scope and site requirements, with the objective of mitigating flash-flood impacts and protecting vulnerable road infrastructure."
No private contractors handled the labor. The Home Department oversaw the work directly using technical assessments. While the agency recognizes the threat of riverbank degradation, they maintain that current funding cannot address it. A separate proposal for erosion control sits with the Ministry of Home Affairs for review. Officials urged the public and media to verify project scopes before circulating claims.

The agency noted that specific plans to tackle riverbank degradation are currently sitting with the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Post Disaster Needs Assessment. If the feds greenlight the proposal, the state will launch targeted interventions for those vulnerable zones.
The authority stated that it values constructive public engagement and appreciates the important role of the media and the community in matters of public interest.
