Kohima: Forty students stepped up to donate blood at Salesian College of Higher Education in Dimapur on October 3. The event honored National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. The Red Ribbon Club organized the effort alongside the District Hospital Dimapur Blood Centre and the Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland.
The group operated under the theme Small Action, Great Impact: Youth for Blood Donation. The college has partnered with the local blood bank since 2011. Kholie Dolf, a former president of the Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland, spoke to the crowd about the persistent need for donors. He reminded the students that science has its limits. "In spite of humanity's advance in knowledge, blood cannot be manufactured," Dolf stated.
Dolf marks his own birthday with a donation every year. He stressed that voluntary gifts remain the only way to cover surgical emergencies and shortages. Dr. Rongsenmar Lkr, the head of the District Hospital Blood Centre, managed a question and answer session for the donors. If screening revealed health issues, staff provided students with private counseling and linked them to medical care. Student Hilika opened the morning with a welcome speech, and Kewidibo closed the event with a vote of thanks.
