Kohima: Seven hundred young people packed Salesian College of Higher Education in Dimapur this Sunday. They came from 18 local centres for the Annual Youth Meet 2026. The theme: Instruments of Peace. Participants spent the day in faith, fellowship, and cultural play.
The event opened with singing and animation. Fr. Deli Kapani David, vice provincial of the Salesian Province of St Francis de Sales, Dimapur, presided over the Holy Mass. It served as the spiritual base for the gathering. Forty-nine Philosophy students, alongside Ursuline novices, MSMHC sisters, FMA sisters, and B.Ed Brothers, managed the logistics and events.
Cultural performances defined the afternoon. Groups from Holy Family-Burma Camp, Lengrijan, Model Village, Chittronala, Lahorijan, Samaguri, Singrijan, Diphuphar Angami, Diphuphar A, Dhobinala, Infant Jesus, Chekiye, and Girjaline took the stage. The MSMHC sisters added a special number. Competition was stiff. Lahorijan took the top spot in the Reels Making contest, with St Francis, Dhobinala and Singrijan following behind. Chittronala, Holy Family-Burma Camp, and Langkhailu took consolation prizes.
Preeti Urang claimed first in the Drawing Competition. James Kithan of Model Village and Maria Tiru of Chekiye Village took second and third. Consolation prizes went to Lahorijan, Metale Kharia from Singrijan, and John and Jowana Kujur from Girjaline. Fr. Dominic Ralte distributed the awards before the day ended. Fr. Samuel Gangmei, the Dean, offered the final thanks. The event emphasized "the role of young people in building peaceful communities."
