Kohima: Officials from the Karbialong district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Aranyak Saika, met with their Dimapur counterparts on July 23 at the Circuit House in Dimapur. The coordination meeting focused on cooling tensions along the volatile Assam-Nagaland border. Police and civil leadership from both states attended the session to ensure immediate communication during future flare-ups.
The two sides praised the current relationship between their respective police forces. "Such cooperation has helped prevent escalation of disputes and ensured the safety and security of residents living along the border," the officials noted. Assam revenue officers used historical records, boundary notifications, and census data to argue that the disputed villages fall under their state's jurisdiction.
Both sides want peace. They agreed to prioritize local stability despite ongoing territorial disagreements. To manage the border, the administrations proposed a joint border monitoring committee. This group will include police, district officials, and village representatives. The body intends to maintain the status quo while monitoring sensitive areas and mediating disputes between local residents.
Future inspections of border zones will happen jointly to keep things transparent. Both states committed to regular meetings and open lines of communication to prevent future violence. They believe mutual trust is the best way to handle the complicated border situation.
