Imphal: Manipur officials inked a new deal to push rural employment. The Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission signed 21 project agreements under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana 2.0. The ceremony took place at the Manipur Secretariat in Mantripukhri. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen joined the event to back the plan. The move aims to scale up job training for the state's youth.
Khemchand Singh noted that the government cannot hire everyone. Training is the fix. The state successfully trained 8,866 candidates and placed 5,946 in jobs during the 2019 to 2025 period of the first phase. That hit a 70 percent placement rate. The Chief Minister said, "The placement of nearly 70 percent of trained candidates was an encouraging achievement for the State."
Agreements were finalized with NABARD Consultancy Services to act as the project appraisal agency. Other deals involve service providers running Migration Support Centres in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Officials also empanelled 20 new Project Implementing Agencies to handle the workload. The MSRLM works across districts to help the vulnerable. This includes Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, single women, persons with disabilities, and landless labourers. Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur and Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Sumant Singh attended the meeting to confirm the path forward.
