Kohima: S Richard Humtsoe wants a job. The National Secretary of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) demands a defined role within Nagaland’s opposition-less government. He insists that giving political support does not mean remaining silent. Accountability matters. Humtsoe is questioning the state government's core vision, objectives, and actual deliverables for the people.
The LJP (RV) currently holds two seats in the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Dr. Sukhato A Sema serves as the Leader of the Legislature Party, while Naiba Konyak acts as Chief Whip. Both lawmakers are active participants. The party says it seeks meaningful participation rather than ceremonial recognition. "Political support cannot be treated as political silence," Humtsoe stated.
The party is hungry for specific assignments. It wants to tackle food processing, agro-based industries, youth employment, and rural infrastructure. They also aim to lead in investment, industrial development, and the coordination of Central government schemes. During a National Executive Meeting in New Delhi on August 10, State President Viloto Pukhato joined Sema and Konyak to discuss these goals. The party specifically eyes the Act East Policy for cross-border trade.
Humtsoe argues that unity must yield results. He wants to see better infrastructure, stronger connectivity, and real economic growth before the assembly term ends in 2028. He warned that the absence of a formal opposition should not lead to an absence of legislative scrutiny. "We are not asking merely for positions. We are asking for a mandate to deliver results for the people of Nagaland," he said. The party now waits to see if it will receive a seat at the table.
