Kohima: The Election Commission of India has launched a Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls across Nagaland. CEO Bhagyashree Banayat set the qualifying date for October 1, 2026. Preparations run from August 5 through August 14. This phase includes stakeholder meetings, official training, and printing enumeration forms.
Booth Level Officers will begin house-to-house visits on August 16. These visits continue until September 14. Officials will distribute pre-filled forms to every existing elector. Residents must provide the completed paperwork to verify their details. BLOs will collect these forms during a second round of visits, issuing receipts to residents.
Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, the Dimapur District Election Officer, urged citizens to have passport-size photos ready for verification. He requested that local authorities and Village Councils assist with publicizing the drive. The process is a massive, state-wide audit. Electoral Registration Officers will also rationalize polling stations during this window. No station may host more than 1,200 electors without prior approval.
The draft electoral roll drops September 20. Only those who submitted forms will appear. Those omitted can file Form 6 during the claims and objections window, which spans from September 20 to October 20. Officials will verify eligibility under Article 326 and the Representation of the People Act, 1950. Suspected foreign nationals will be referred to authorities under the Citizenship Act, 1955.
Hearings for claims and objections proceed until November 18. The final roll is scheduled for publication on November 22. Describing the drive as a participative exercise, the CEO's office appealed to all stakeholders to "extend cooperation and support in preparing an error-free electoral roll for the state." Citizens needing assistance can dial the 1950 helpline or use the ECINET platform.
