Kohima: The Election Commission of India has ordered a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across Nagaland. The move aims to clean up the lists. Every eligible citizen must be included. Every ineligible person must be removed. October 1, 2026, serves as the official qualifying date for the entire state.

Officials started the preparatory phase on August 5. This window lasts until August 14. During this time, authorities will train Booth Level Officers, print Enumeration Forms, and hold meetings with stakeholders. Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer Bhagyashree Banayat urged political parties to appoint booth-level agents for the exercise. Representatives from the BJP, INC, and Naga People’s Front attended the Kohima briefing.

From August 16 to September 14, officers will conduct door-to-door visits. They will distribute pre-filled forms to households. Residents must provide the completed forms back to the visitors. Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang requested local cooperation. He stated, "BLOs will conduct house to house visits from August 16 to September 14, 2026 for distribution and collection of Enumeration Forms." Citizens should keep passport-sized photos ready for verification.

The Electoral Registration Officer will finalize polling station rationalization by September 14. No station may exceed 1,200 electors without commission approval. The draft roll will go public on September 20. A claims and objections window opens that same day and runs through October 20. Officials will review eligibility under Article 326 of the Constitution and the Representation of the People Act. Hearings continue until November 18. The state will publish the final electoral roll on November 22.
