Kohima: A Nagaland Legislative Assembly committee heads to Dimapur on July 31. The panel will meet with Dimapur Municipal Council members, colony chairmen, and local gaon buras. They plan to discuss the Nagaland Municipal Act of 2023 and the 1978 Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act. K Tokugha Sukhalu chairs the visiting committee.
Mokokchung officials issued a travel advisory Monday. Heavy damage hit the National Highway-2 between Chuchuyimlang and Unger. Deputy Commissioner Thsuvisie Phoji ordered traffic re-routing until further notice. Drivers between Mokokchung and Tuli must now use the Impur Junction and Longjang route. Similar diversions apply to commuters heading toward Chuchuyimlang and Changtongya. The state expects full cooperation.
The Hub for Empowerment of Women in Kohima distanced itself from an appeal regarding Mission Shakti honorariums on Monday. Anonymous parties used their name without permission. The organization confirmed six months of pay from the 2025-26 fiscal year remain stalled at the central Ministry of Women and Child Development. They already receive current 2026-27 payments.
David Gangmei, a former Zeliangrong United Front leader, switched sides to the NSCN-K (Niki). Gangmei previously represented the ZUF during talks in Imphal and New Delhi. He told the outfit his former group "has no vision for the Nagas as a whole."
The Nagaland Home Department called a meeting for July 29. AHoDs and HoDs must gather at 3 pm in the Kohima Civil Secretariat. Separately, the Kohima Traders Association is now the Traders Grievances Cell. It will operate under the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries following a July 24 stakeholder meeting.
