Kohima: The Voluntary Blood Donors Association Nagaland (VBDAN) gathered stakeholders in Zunheboto on September 26 to push for a stronger voluntary blood donation system. The meeting operated under the theme Every District, Every Donor, Every Life Matters. Attendees included healthcare workers, Green Club members, football officials, and civil society representatives.
VBDAN member Ainato Yeptho said the tour aims to bring the movement to the grassroots level. He wants a coordinated, uniform donor network across the state. Team member Bendangmoa Imsong introduced an Android application designed to match donors with recipients by location. Donors can update their status in the app to stop unnecessary calls following a recent donation.
The association proposed creating district-level chapters to share resources and knowledge. Tavinto K Sumi, President of the Green Club Zunheboto, spoke about the struggle of handling urgent, late-night requests. He noted, "Students and young people could play an important role in expanding the voluntary donor network." He called for more awareness across churches, colonies, and schools.
Infrastructure remains a hurdle. Participants voiced concerns over current blood storage facilities. They demanded better coordination and improved equipment to stop delays in patient care. VBDAN member Alipoker Aier provided technical details regarding transfusion processes and local facilities. The association plans more training and capacity-building sessions across Nagaland to keep the momentum going.
