Thirty-three donors bolster Kohima blood supplies

Kohima: Thirty-three volunteers rolled up their sleeves at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima blood bank on September 12. The Rev Moa Longchari Cancer Foundation organized this second phase of its drive. They need blood. The donations included nine A positive, seven B positive, 13 O positive, and four AB positive units.

Nagaland uses roughly 20,000 units of blood every year. Relying on emergency donors causes dangerous delays. The foundation works closely with cancer patients who often face anemia or low blood cell counts. These patients need repeated transfusions during chemotherapy. Having a steady supply prevents interruptions to their medical care.

The foundation wants to build a culture of regular giving. People should not wait for a crisis to act. "Having blood readily available can be an essential part of timely and uninterrupted care," the foundation said. Regular donation ensures the bank is stocked before the next emergency hits.
