Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced two new award categories on August 4 to recognize mothers across the state. The move comes ahead of the second Aama Samman Diwas celebration. The event will take place at Rangpo Playground to handle larger crowds. It coincides with the 9th Jan Unmukti Diwas.
The Aama Samman Puraskar gives ₹51,000 to one mother in every Assembly constituency. This specific prize excludes those already receiving funds from the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana. Meanwhile, the Pragatisheel Aama Puraskar targets past beneficiaries. It rewards three mothers for the best use of government financial aid. These winners will receive cash prizes of ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh, and ₹2 lakh.
Tamang met with party leaders and officials at Samman Bhawan to coordinate the event. He demanded fairness and transparency during the selection process for all awardees. "The programme reflects the state's gratitude for the selfless love, sacrifices and lifelong contributions made by mothers to their families and society."
