Gangtok: Banks in Sikkim kicked off a massive financial outreach push this Wednesday. The State Level Bankers Committee launched the drive at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok. They aim to hit all 197 gram panchayat units and urban local bodies by December 31. This effort follows direct orders from the central government.

Sikkim Minister G T Dhungel headlined the event. He told residents to sign up for state-backed programs to build a safety net. He described the programme as an "important opportunity to understand and access available benefits." Representatives from the Reserve Bank of India, NABARD, and the State Bank of India joined the session to drill down on fraud prevention and safe banking.

Officials spent the day detailing specific social security tools. This includes the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and the Atal Pension Yojana. They also pushed life and accident cover through the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. Farmers learned about crop insurance via the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Kisan Credit Card credit lines.

Experts stressed the basics. SBI Chief Manager Phurba Sherpa told attendees to link Aadhaar cards and keep KYC documents current. He also warned people to check for unclaimed assets. RBI Deputy General Manager Sudhir Kanekar laid out the formal process for filing complaints when fraud happens.

Digital threats remain a major concern. DIG Tenzing Loden Lepcha warned the crowd about the rising tide of cybercrime. The campaign runs until the end of the year. Bankers will fan out across the state to hold camps in every district unit.
