Gangtok: The Sikkim State Pollution Control Board issued a strict ultimatum to the hospitality industry. Hotels, guest houses, lodges, and restaurants operating without environmental consent must fix their status by March 31, 2027. Time is short. Businesses must submit required documents, applications, and fees to gain formal standing under this one-time concession.

Owners do not need to pay for their entire history of operations. The board limits past dues to the preceding two or three years based on specific case circumstances. Officials will determine the final amounts after a thorough verification and assessment of each site. This move aims to bring local establishments into the fold while upholding state environmental standards.

The board stated this initiative is "intended to provide existing businesses with an opportunity to comply with environmental regulations." Approval is not guaranteed. Applicants must meet every environmental safeguard and supply all necessary records to earn the required consent.

Failure is not an option. The board warned that firms failing to secure permissions before the deadline face legal action under environmental laws without further notice. Compliance is mandatory for all.
