Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang demanded better infrastructure and stronger transport links to unlock the full potential of the Northeast. He spoke at the 14th International Tourism Mart 2026 on Thursday in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. Regional cooperation is the key to progress. Tamang believes the eight states must act as a single unit to pull in more travelers.

The government must prioritize local heritage and get communities involved in tourism work. Sikkim already pushes for more homestays and promotes hidden gems to broaden the sector. Responsible tourism creates jobs for the youth. It builds lasting livelihoods.

Tamang credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for driving new focus on the region. He claimed the "Ashta Lakshmi" vision could help position the region as a leading global tourism destination. Improved access remains the primary hurdle for growth.
